This piece is based on a short story, Ten Nights of Dream, written in 1908 by Soseki Natsume. The story focuses on “one hundred” as the symbolic number and years to depict eternity and transformation of human beings through the Japanese historic event of opening the small island country to the western world. In this vol. II, one hundred years of Japanese, especially mental, history is reflected upon through four dreams with four characters: waiting man, non waiting man, woman hurtling, and unknown Lily. In the first night of this short story, a man buries his wife/lover, and wait for her who promised to come back to see him a hundred years later. In the end, he starts to doubt about what she promised, however at the last moment, a lily stretches its bud in front of him and bloom. With the intensity of getting closer to a hundred year anniversary of this short story, this episode was placed still as dream of the waiting man and Lily in this piece. On the other hand, the non waiting man, depicted originally as samurai who seeks enlightenment, is presented in business suits and lead by an ideal figure, hurtling woman, to the west, carrying cultural, historical and individual burden constantly on his back. Live music was set by koto player Michiyo Yagi and double bassist Jason Roebke. This piece will be succeeded to "Sound and Movement Ten Nights Dream III".
