| Ten
Nights Dream was written in 1908 by Meiji period novelist, Soseki
Natsume (1867‐1916). He depicted the cultural and religious
transformation of this tiny East island country of Japan due to opening
the country to the West. At the same time, he showed the universal
essence of human beings which were hoped to exist in Japan also one
hundred years later. |
|
| In this first sound and movement version, three stories are picked. The dance piece seeks the universality of being and ideal self-assured state as individual which Soseki brought up one hundred years ago. Through movements, common and uncommon aspects from old to new over one hundred years were drawn by figures in dreams of Soseki as well as “genzai no otoko and onna man and woman in the present” (genzai’s sound equals to both “present” and “original sin” in Japanese). |
|
Sound and Movement Ten Nights Dream will be developed continuously to examine the duality of a human being in the contemporary society and its dilemma with own humanity. Hopefully the piece will help to verify the fundamental source which human beings are equally sharing and standing on.
